Te tūranga – The role

Working as part of the Strategy and Business Performance department, the Strategy, Planning and Performance team are all about enabling our people to effectively define, plan and deliver our objectives and strategic priorities. Their hard work enables teams across our organisation to reach their goals and improve performance.

The team are ambassadors for cultural and behavioural change internally and externally, and use their influencing skills and sharp focus on what needs to be achieved for Aotearoa to support the work taking place within the Reserve Bank. They are passionate advocates for the work we do here both domestically and internationally, focusing our effort in areas where we can have the greatest impact.

In this role, you’ll work as part of a team of trusted Advisers to support the Governor, senior leaders and other internal stakeholders on key projects. You’ll be involved in strategy development, business planning and helping to coordinate the drafting of our corporate accountability documents.

You’ll bring:

  • experience in a role within the financial sector, government or relevant public sector organisation
  • strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence decisions and adapt your communication to suit your audience and stakeholders
  • an understanding and some exposure to planning, performance and strategy development
  • ideally you’ve worked in a similar role, understanding the planning and performance process and drafting of key accountability documents

Our client, a leading banking institution, has tasked us with finding a Senior Manager – Operational Risk and Compliance – Business Banking. In this role, you will work closely with the Heads of Risk & Compliance and will be responsible for leading the Operational Risk and Compliance business engagement and oversight service. You will act as a single point of 2LOD Operational Risk Compliance engagement and be responsible for oversight, review, and challenge for the business area.

About the role:

  • You will be responsible for risk identification and assessment, overseeing all areas of existing and new risks impacting the business, and engaging Policy Owners where required.
  • Maintaining the monitoring of risk and controls environment to identify events, issues, and changes in risk exposures to the BU risk profile.
  • Assist the Policy Owner and Line 1 to manage their obligations and assist Policy Owner engagement for key regulations, licensing requirements, and work closely with compliance to embed the Compliance register
  • Provide expert advice on how to implement risk management frameworks
  • Carry out testing on effective implementation of, and adherence to policies and frameworks
  • Lead thematic reviews and attestation process for the business area and participates as required in NZ wide reviews
  • Work with the Business Unit to develop strategies that fit within the Op Risk appetite and identify best practices for managing their risks and complying with the business change management framework
  • Be a mentor and leader in respect of general Op Risk and Compliance matters and represent the function and agenda across the wider New Zealand Division.

About you:

  • Exceptional knowledge of operational risk and compliance
  • Previous experience in implementing Operational Risk and Compliance Frameworks
  • Key understanding of the NZ Regulatory environment
  • Leadership experience and ability to lead through change
  • Strong stakeholder engagement through communication and influencing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
